Welcome to a new feature of the African Roots Podcast!!! A bi-weekly chat to help you get started!

We are DIGGING THE ROOTS!!!

Digging the Roots is a  casual conversation between two genealogists—Shelley Murphy – aka Family Tree Girl, and myself–Angela Walton-Raji. Our goal is to have  have a bi-weekly chat about our favorite topic—-GENEALOGY!

We want to cover topics of interest, share our thoughts, opinions and ideas to help you get started and stay on track with pursuing your family history!

We hope that you enjoy our conversation—and join in by letting us hear from you! You can send an email to AfricanRootsPodcast@gmail.com. Shelley can be reached via her website also at familytreegirl.com

In this introductory session we discuss methods of getting started from oral history to the family archives, and so much more. So listen, enjoy and let us hear from you because like you, we are both Digging the Roots!

Welcome back to the African Roots Podcast!

I have had an incredible two weeks of presentations, travel and learning! I began two weeks ago with a presentation at the Benjamin Banneker Museum, followed by the 5th Midwest African American Genealogy Institute. I ended up the week with a presentation at Gen Fed, and then on Sunday a session at the Woodlawn Branch of the Baltimore County Public Library.

Summer is always a great time to update one’s skills and I can tell  you that we had a lot of learning and sharing going on at MAAGI.

Gen Fed was loads of fun as well.

Last night’s episode of the Bernice Bennett’s How featured Leontyne Clay Peck who talked about her research from West Virgnina to Central Virginia. She was a lively guest and was a delight to listen to as she described both her research experience and her reaction to her findings. The show, Research at the National Archives & Beyond airs every Thursday evening on Blog Talk Radio.

I will broadcast again next week, after which I will then go back to the bi-weekly schedule once again. But thank you all for tuning in and listening to the podcast. Thanks for sharing your questions and comments with me, as well. And as I wind things down this week, please remember to keep researching, keep documenting and keep sharing what you find!
