Hello to everyone from Ft. Wayne Indiana at the International Black Genealogy Summit! This is an historic event and so far the turnout has been great, and the workshops have really been enlightening.

Yesterday’s event consisted of a Pre-Conference day—full of workshops and some interesting insights on things yet to come. The conference is hosted at the Allen County Library, and this is an impressive place with many resources for African American genealogists. New items for local researchers at Allen County, consist of Early Negro and Mulatto Registers. This collection has been digitized and is less than 1 month being online.

The African American Gateway rests on the Allen County Library site, and is a link to wonderful resources at the Allen County Library. This special link just went live this week and rests on the Allen County website. A unique collection that they have also developed is a collection of Military records reflecting Black soldiers in Massachusetts Regiments.

A special welcome was made to the more than 400 participants, and announcements of upcoming projects on Ancestry.com were also shared, including the 25,000 volunteers working on the Community Indexing Initiave.

The conference will end tomorrow afternoon and will end with a special event at the African American Museum of Ft. Wayne.

This historic event has so far been a success! This makes me want to continue to work on my various projects, and of course to look forward to meeting more of you at future events.

In the meantime, please continue to do what you do–keep researching, keep documenting and keep sharing what you find.
