Greetings to all celebrating family reunions this weekend. Special greetings to the Taylor Family Reunion in Rocky Mount, North Carolina!
Schedules are now posted for upcoming conferences, so take a look.
AAHGS National Conference, Little Rock Arkansas.
ASALH Annual Conference, Richmond Virginia
An interesting story appeared about a Maryland African American Family Tracing the family history to Mann Page III. The story is interesting as through DNA testing, it was revealed that the family ties go back to the 1600s.
An interesting story appeared about a slave cemetery found in Texas. A recent drought exposed the cemetery which is normally covered by a reservoir. I hope that this story will encourage other projects to explore lost burial sites, and to unearth missing pieces of African American history.
Note that Melvin Collier’s new book, “150 Years Later” can be obtain on Amazon.com.
Interested in a cruise? Well a fund-raising cruise will be taking place to assist with the renovations for the Louis Diggs African American Cultural Center. The purpose will be to restore the historic Pest House, which will be the home of the African American Cultural Center. A recent story about the Pest House is emerging as well as the work of Mr. Diggs, himself. The cruise will be part of a fund-raising effort to restore this historic building. More information about the cruise will be posted here by next week.
Thanks for listening. Have a great week, and please keep researching, keep documenting, and keep sharing what you find!
