Events for June
African American Museum in Philadelphia has a new exhibit called Audacious Freedom. This looks at African American history from 1776-1876. The exhibit opens on June 19th 2009.
Prince George’s County AAHGS has a special workshop for Juneteenth on June 20th in Suitland MD there will be an all day workshop on African American Genealogy. It is free to the public but pre-registration is required.
July 1st Still time for Early Bird Registration for the Federation of Genealogy Societies annual conference in Little Rock, Arkansas. Some wonderful workshops are scheduled for African American researchers. The conference schedule is on their website.
July 1st is also the date if you are interested in presenting at the 2010 California Genealogy Jamboree. Visit the Jamboree 2010 Call for Papers.
Canadian Black History
Take some time to visit the Ontario Black History Society.
The Ontario Black History Society (OBHS) is a non-profit registered Canadian charity, dedicated to the study, preservation and promotion of Black History and heritage. The Society aims to foster public interest and encourage the interest of Black History through oral history, public presentations and community outreach.
I will be speaking in the future about professionalizing yourself and becoming connected to others who are also professional researchers. Consider joining the Association of Professional genealogists, (APG) and other organizations for Professional genealogists.
