July 10- 16 Washington DC National Institute of Genealogical Research, Washington DC. You may want to consider attending some of the week long institutes such as the one I just attended at Samford University.

Have you considered Study Groups?
Check out St. Louis AAHGS and the Chicago African American Genealogical and Historical Society and note that they have study groups. This is a great way to get help with your research—-by joining with others who have roots in the same state. I know that St. Louis is holding some of their study group meetings in July. Also while on the same website from St. Louis—look at the video about the great migration

July 16-18 take note–in Washington DC: Grand Opening of the African American Civil War Museum—at their new home. The historic Grimke School

Take a look at the conference site for the National Black genealogy Summit.
There is a Pre-conference day being planned in addition to the main event on that weekend. Also new speakers are being added to the program. There will also be a presentation for those interested in researching immigrants to the US from the Islands, and from Canada. So explore the many interesting workshops emerging.

By the way, do you have ties to the West Indies? Well there is a conference for you in St. Croix, and it is genealogical event. It will be in August 2011 a Conference for Family Historians

Pedigrees, Nationalities, Origins & the Native Americans of Southern Maryland, Plus DAR, & DNA testing. Charles County Family History Study Group is hosting this event, at the Potomac Branch Library in Indian Head, Maryland.

I hope you can check out some of these events and also to start telling the missing stories—from the Story of Freedom and also if your family migrated—that is the missing story of the 20th century. Let’s tell all of the stories.
