Welcome back to the African Roots Podcast. My name is Angela Walton-Raji and you can reach me at AfricanRootsPodcast@gmail.com
Happy New Year to everyone!!!!
I hope you are busy planning your events for the coming year! Sell 2011 is here and all kinds of plans are underway for the Sesquicentennial celebrations for the Civil War.
Well in honor of the Sesquicentennial, I am happy to share with you my latest blog:The USCT Chronicle. I had been working on this blog for a while and was inspired to go ahead and launch it, when I came across the wonderful site “About our Freedom” and you heard me speak about it last week. Well I was inspired to really push ahead, and I am glad that I did. This will be a good platform for me, to share much of the data that I have been working on for many years, and frankly it is time to tell those stories. New blogs are forthcoming, so do stand by.
I am getting ready for a few presentations—-one next week in Philadelphia on January 11, at the Philadelphia AAGG (African American Genealogy Group).
Interesting activities are being planned by the African American Civil War Memorial Museum. They will be hosting events for the next 5 years, and of course do remember to pay attention to their descendant day events the first Saturday of each month. I also look forward to learning more about the sons and daughters of the United States Colored Troops. There are Descendants Day events at the Museum each month and worth taking a look at.
Why not step outside of your comfort zone this year and give back to the genealogy community? There are some Calls for papers that are out, to give you chance to present at genealogical events in the future. Many of you have been researching for more than 10 years and it is time now to consider submitting proposals yourself. Here are two for you.
Missouri State Genealogy Conference: Request for Speakers . The conference will take place August 5-6, 2011.
National Genealogical Society (NGS) Call for Papers for the 2012 conference in Cinncinati Ohio, in May 9-12, 2012.
Perhaps this is the time to give something back to the community by presentations.
Let me hear from you if there are issues, concerns, ideas, projects to find.
Thanks for listening and Happy New Year!
And remember to Keep Researching, Keep Documenting and Keep sharing what you find!
